HUB8: Hello, can you give us a little introduction to who you are and what you do?  Where do you live? What do you love about it?

Dušan Pavlović: Hi, my name is Dušan and in terms of profession, I’m an electrical engineer. However, I wouldn’t say that my professional career is something that defines me. I have a lot of hobbies which are part of my character and that is why I love Belgrade. This city offers numerous outdoor and indoor activities, especially when it comes to sports, music, dancing, night life and various sorts of arts. Since the city is the heart of the Balkans, a lot of people from all over Serbia and region live here and that’s what makes this city so warm and diverse. But most importantly, Belgrade is a place where all of my dearest people live in. It’s home.

H8: What are you working on just now that you are most excited about doing?

DP: Currently, I’m working on several music projects. Some of them involve creativity in making music from scratch, while others are more focused on rearranging the music written awhile ago. Additionally, I will participate in one upcoming salsa/son performance, so we are preparing a choreography at this moment. Those are some of the things that excite me.

H8: What has been your favorite moment on the project so far? What are you looking forward to the most in the future of the project?

DP: Recently I have released a video/song with my friend. We shot the video in 3D environment which is something that I have never done before and it was really cool being on the set. For that same song, we’re planning to make unplugged version of it, with classical guitar, double bass, percussions and lots of backing vocals. I can’t wait bring that version to life.

H8: How do you prefer to start your day?

DP: Most of the time I can’t control how my day ends or where will the course of the day lead me, but I can always control how it starts. I prefer to start my day early, with some stretching, glass of water and meditation practice. I also read, write and do a short workout from time to time. Maybe it’s a cliché, but ever since I’ve started with my morning routine, my life really has changed.

H8: What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend? Any story to share?

DP: Saturday is the day when my alarm clock is off. That day is for cleaning the house, playing football and chillin’. Sunday is pretty much reserved for family. Besides that, I love spending time in nature and out of Belgrade whenever it’s possible.

H8: What’s your go-to productivity trick?

DP: It depends. When I’m feeling low on energy or just being lazy, doing something physical is what helps me boost my energy and find motivation to be productive. And when I can’t focus on what I’m doing, meditation and breathwork are usually helping me in aligning my energy towards the goal.

H8: What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?

DP: In my opinion, there is no such thing. Depending on situations we encounter during our lives, applicability of advices differ from man to man. However, one that immediately pops to my mind is “Festina lente”. During my studies, one of the college assistants told me these Latin words and they were stuck with me ever since. We shouldn’t rush to the next task, not until we are sure that the current one is done meticulously. Same applies to our lives. It would be nice if people could actually listen carefully to one another, just listen first. It appears that most of the people listen only in order to reply, and they forget to pay attention to the simple act of listening.

H8: If you could share one piece of advice for those who are just starting to create?

DP: We can always find a lot of reasons not to start, but it is important just to begin. By bringing our ideas into the physical world, opposed to just keeping them in our heads, things start to shape. At first it will probably be hard and we will find even more reasons to quit, but if we just persist and after some time take a look back, we will find out that what once seemed impossible, now is reality. Book is written chapter by chapter, paragraph by paragraph, sentence by sentence, word by word, but first, letter by letter. So if you have an idea, get up tomorrow morning and “write one letter”.

You create something too?
